Volker Ehlers
After starting his riding career at the Hannoverian State Stud of Bad Harzsburg, Germany, Volker achieved his "Certified Rider" status through the rigorous German qualification system under the instruction of former Olympian Hermann Schride. He then trained and showed grand prix jumpers for nearly a decade at the Schockemohle Stable, the largest and most successful jumper facility in Europe. Concurrently, Volker trained dressage horses under Herbert Rehbein.
After moving to North America and starting multiple Hannoverian breeding farms in Canada and Washington State, Volker spent the largest part of his career co-managing with his wife, Judy Ehlers, Glenwood Farms in California, one of the leading Hannoverian breeding facilities in the United States. There he showed dressage horses through Prix St. Georges and competed jumpers through the grand prix level. His most notable mount was the Hannoverian stallion Prinz Gaylord. Volker has served for over 20 years on the American Hannoverian Society Inspection Committee and continues to this day.
He currently resides in the Bull Mountains of Montana and trains amateur jumper riders at High Plains Stables exclusively.
Judy Ehlers
Born in Oregon, Judy has a lifetime of experience with horses spanning from sport horse breeding to dressage, jumping, three-day eventing, and endurance riding. She has trained and showed horses through the Prix St. Georges level in dressage. Her most notable mount was the Hannoverian stallion, Diamont. In addition to serving 8 years as the president of the American Hannoverian Society, she served many years on the AHS Inspection Committee and was instrumental in developing the Oldenburg Breeding Registry for the United States.
She is the founder of Glenwood Farms, one of the premier Hannoverian breeding facilities in the United States. At this facility, she and Volker, her husband, managed over 30 mares, 5 stallions, and averaged 20 foals per year. They also hosted a decade of sport horse auctions at this location.
Judy has taught dressage through the Intermediare level and boasts a daughter who rides Grand Prix dressage in Germany. She currently resides in the Bull Mountains of Montana and trains dressage riders at High Plains Stables exclusively.
Shiela Buschette
Sheila grew up riding on a ranch in Montana and started her riding career as a barrel racer. She participated in 4-H and competed in hunter-jumpers. After receiving her bachelor of science in equine studies with a minor in education, she studied classical dressage for over 15 years. She has taught numerous students of all disciplines including Western, English, and Dressage up to the Second Level. Her students have been very successful at the national level. She is active in colt starting and boasts a unique style combining natural horsemanship with classical dressage training to produce a calm, broke horse willing to accept the bridle and dressage aids early on. Her personal interests include breeding and competing Friesians for dressage. She currently teaches dressage and performs colt starting at High Plains Stables and at her own facility, Equine Services.
